Most often, synthetic derivatives of medications result in side effects from the original drug's intent. Side effects may be harmful or potentially beneficial. Prospectively, synthetic derivatives from marijuana may have beneficial uses. However, at present, synthetic products have been shown to have negative consequences. Additionally, potential applications of synthetic cannabinoids remain primarily unexplored. This section will focus on the ongoing research in public policy pertaining to this topic.
